Gastric bypass has been the most extensively studied and performed bariatric surgery since the beginning of the specialty. The stomach is partitioned into a small pouch, limiting food intake and letting it absorb less.
Revision bariatric surgery is an additional weight loss surgery to convert one procedure to another. Our most often performed revision surgery is removing the gastric band and converting to a sleeve gastrectomy.
In LAP-BAND® surgery, an adjustable silicone band is placed around the upper part of the stomach to restrict food intake. A port (or reservoir) located under the skin of the abdomen allows the surgeon to adjust the band’s tightness.
